About us
Dear tin figure enthusiasts in east and west, north and south
Welcome to this romantic building called the "Lohmühle". Here we will show you an artful and entertaining
depiction of the history of the city of Goslar and of the Harz region. Our clear, didactically sound museum concept not only exhibits tin figures, but above all also illustrates the fortunes of the city and the region over the course of more than a thousand years - using around sixty large, lovingly designed tin figure dioramas. In other words, we are a history museum that portrays the history of the German Empire and the Occident between 1000 and 1250 A.D., an era in which Goslar was a centre of great importance. The UNESCO world heritage sites, the "Old Town of Goslar", the "Mines of Rammelsberg" and the "Upper Harz Water Management System", are illustrated as partly moving scenes, which also provide insight into the architectural and social history. Changing special exhibitions complement the
museum concept.
We have been a volunteer-run museum for over 30 years. Both our permanent and our honorary staff members are museum enthusiasts through and through. They need to be able to do (almost) everything, and are always prepared to make your visit to our museum an unforgettable experience. We have much to offer in addition to the exhibitions. We invite you to learn more about us below.
